Alonso slams FIA for late announcement of fine at Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
MOSCOW, March 19 – The pilot of the Formula 1 team Aston Martin Fernando Alonso criticized the decision of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), which fined him after the finish of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix race, because of which the Spaniard lost his place on the podium.
Alonso finished third despite a 5-second penalty early in the race for incorrectly positioning his car on the grid. The Spaniard managed to celebrate the 100th podium in his career, when it became known that 10 seconds were added to his result at the finish line for incorrectly serving a fine. Because of this, the two-time world champion dropped to fourth position in the final protocol of the race, passing Briton George Russell (“Mercedes”).
