Former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir says that Chris Gayle should open for Punjab Kings in the second phase of IPL. He said that Gayle hits big and if he does not open, there will be no use of keeping him in the team. Gambhir said that Gayle does not let the balls go to waste.
Gambhir on Star Sports said that if Chris Gayle is in your team, then he should open. Why would you want him to bat at number three? There is no point in getting him to bat at number three. West Indies and Punjab Kings have done this but I don’t understand why anyone would.
Gambhir further said that if Gayle is in your last eleven, then he should open because he does not let the balls go empty. He will probably have to take a lot of singles at number three. Singles will have to be taken more than the opener.
The former Indian batsman also gave his reaction about Mahendra Singh Dhoni, saying that he would find it difficult to score runs fast, especially after retirement. He said that once you retire from international cricket, it becomes difficult to play in the IPL. It is not like CPL or other leagues. IPL is the tournament where you face top quality bowlers. According to me, the top order of Chennai needs a stormy performance.
It is noteworthy that the performance of Chennai Super Kings has been excellent in the first phase of IPL. Chennai’s team performed a strong game in that phase of April-May. Chennai have won 5 out of 7 matches with 10 points to finish second in the table. At present, the team of Delhi Capitals is in the first place.
As far as Punjab Kings team is concerned, this team has secured 6th position in the table by winning three matches. Punjab team now has only 6 matches left.
