Two-time European swimming champion Leonid Barbier dies at 86

MOSCOW, 16 Jan – Two-time European champion Leonid Barbier passed away at the age of 86, according to the website of the All-Russian Swimming Federation (VFTU).
The causes of death were not specified.
“Yesterday, January 15, a swimming veteran, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, member of the WFTU Council of Elders Leonid Fedorovich Barbier passed away. The All-Russian Swimming Federation expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Leonid Fedorovich,” the message says.
Barbier is a two-time European champion (1958, 1962), a silver medalist of the European Championship, a six-time European record holder, a 15-time USSR record holder, a five-time USSR champion.
