Efremenkova and Balbekov became Russian champions in short track 1000m
MOSCOW, 12 Mar – Ekaterina Efremenkova and Vladimir Balbekov won gold medals in the 1000m at the Russian Single Distance Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Ufa.
Efremenkova showed a time of 1 minute 34.313 seconds. The second place was taken by Anna Vostrikova (1:34.428), Alena Krylova (1:34.686) rounded out the top three.
Balbekov in the men’s competition covered the distance in 1 minute 26.026 seconds. The second was Sergey Milovanov (1:26.144), the third – Maxim Shevelev (1:26.230).
The Council of the International Skating Union (ISU) on March 1, 2022, against the backdrop of events in Ukraine, suspended Russian and Belarusian figure skaters, speed skaters and short track skaters from participating in international tournaments. In June, the ISU Congress approved this decision, it is valid until further notice.
