Indian tennis player Mirza to retire after February tournament in Dubai
MOSCOW, 7 Jan – Former world No. 1 in doubles Sanya Mirza of India will retire from her professional career after the February tournament in Dubai, according to the official website of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
Mirza originally intended to finish tennis at the end of last season, but an elbow injury prevented the athlete from playing at the US Open and forced her to end the season in August without saying goodbye to the fans.
The representative of India is retiring from the sport due to a chronic calf injury and hopes that she will not prevent her from saying goodbye to the fans on the court in Dubai, where the athlete has been living for more than a decade.
Mirza is the winner of six Grand Slam tournaments (three in women’s doubles and three in mixed doubles).
