FIDE Plans to Announce Venue for World Chess Crown Match on January 20

MOSCOW, 16 Jan – The International Chess Federation (FIDE) plans to announce the venue for the match for the world chess crown between Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi and Chinese Ding Liren on January 20, according to the organization’s Twitter page.
The FIDE Council has reviewed the applications received for the right to host the meeting and is currently voting on the most appropriate option. The host contract is likely to be signed on Friday. The match for the world chess crown will take place from 7 to 30 April.
Nepomniachtchi won the Candidates Tournament in Madrid at the beginning of July last year and won the right to play again with the current world champion Magnus Carlsen in 2023. Later, the Norwegian announced his refusal to play a match for the world crown. As a result, Nepomniachtchi will have a title fight with Ding Liren, who came second in the Candidates Tournament.
Carlsen defended the world title four times, the last time he beat Nepomniachtchi in 2021.
