Marchenko’s goal helped Columbus defeat Edmonton in overtime in NHL game

MOSCOW, 26 Jan – The Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Edmonton Oilers in overtime in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season game.
The meeting, held in Edmonton, ended with a score of 3:2 (1:0, 0:2, 1:0, 1:0) in favor of the guests. The winners included Boon Jenner (13th minute), Kirill Marchenko (52) and Kent Johnson (63). Derek Ryan (31) and Zach Hyman (37) scored goals for the hosts.
Marchenko scored his 11th goal in his NHL rookie season. He became the seventh player in goals in the first 25 matches in the league among the Russians. The same number of goals were in the asset of Alexei Kovalev, Sergei Fedorov and Ilya Kovalchuk. The result was better shown by Dmitry Kvartalnov, Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin (15 goals each), Sergey Nemchinov (14), Nikolay Borshchevsky (13) and Andrey Kuzmenko (12). At the same time, Marchenko did not make a single assist.
Columbus ended Edmonton’s six-game winning streak. The Blue Jackets are in last, eighth place in the Capital Division. The Oilers are fourth in the Pacific Division.
In another match, the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Dallas Stars in overtime – 3:2 (1:2, 1:0, 0:0, 1:0).
