Matytsin called the FIE’s decision to allow fencers from Russia to compete fair
MOSCOW, 11 Mar – Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin considers the decision of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete is fair and important.
On Friday, the FIE Congress by a majority vote decided to return Russian and Belarusian fencers to international starts from mid-April.
“Russian and Belarusian athletes can compete with the strongest foreign rivals and win the right to participate in the Olympic Games – 2024 in Paris through qualifying tournaments. This is important for maintaining competitiveness and entertainment in world fencing. Our country is known for a strong fencing school and Olympic athletes with world name. I am sure that in July at the World Championships we will see our fencers on the podium,” the head of the department concluded.
