MOSCOW, 20 Mar – Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev lost to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the Masters series tournament in Indian Wells (USA), the prize fund of which is $8.8 million.
The meeting ended with the score 6:3, 6:2 in favor of the second racket of the world. Tennis players spent 1 hour and 10 minutes on the court. Account in personal meetings became a draw – 1-1.
Medvedev broke a 19-match winning streak, before which he won three tournaments in a row – in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai. Medvedev will receive $662,000 for reaching the Masters final, while Alcaraz earned $1.262 million. On Monday, Alcaraz will top the list of the best tennis players in the world, and Medvedev will rise from fifth to sixth place in the ATP rankings.
Novak Djokovic missed the Indian Wells tournament. A Serb who has not been vaccinated against the coronavirus has been denied entry into the United States. For the same reason, he will not be able to take part in the Masters in Miami, which starts on March 22.
