MOSCOW, 11 Jan – Pavel Rostovtsev has been appointed to the post of Vice-President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) for sports with the functions of the head coach of the Russian national team, according to the official website of the organization.
On Tuesday, the head of the RRF press service, Sergei Averyanov, announced the appointment of Rostovtsev as the head coach of the Russian national team. Georgy Bryusov, director of the Center for Sports Training of Russian National Teams (TsSP), said that the SBR did not provide the candidate’s documents to the TsSP, that is, did not initiate the approval and approval procedure. After that, the head of the press service of the RBU said that the organization was preparing the presentation of Rostovtsev as the head coach of the Russian biathlon team for the Ministry of Sports.
Last season, the Russian biathlon team did not have a head coach. In May 2021, Valery Polkhovsky left this position for health reasons. There are two senior coaches in the Russian national team: Yuri Kaminsky works with the men’s team, Mikhail Shashilov with the women’s team.
Rostovtsev is a three-time world champion, European champion and Olympic silver medalist. In December 2021, Rostovtsev left the post of Minister of Sports of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and became an adviser to Governor Alexander Uss.
