surrey sign kyle jamieson for t20 blast and county games

Surrey have signed New Zealand paceman all-rounder Kyle Jameson for the group stage of the ongoing T20 Blast and two matches in the County Championship. Jameson will be available for the club from June 25. The club has announced that Jameson will remain with Surrey until the match against Middlesex and the final match of the group.

Kyle Jameson has joined the club as a replacement. Fast bowler Sean Abbott suffered a hamstring injury in the club’s debut match, after which he had to return to Australia. Kemar Roach has to join the national team. Jamieson is currently with the New Zealand team, which is playing the second Test against England in Birmingham and will then play the World Test Championship final against India in Southampton from 18 June.

This will be Kyle Jameson’s first experience in domestic cricket in England after making an impressive debut in international cricket in 2020 against India. He will also be available for the last two group stage matches of the County Championship. Surrey will play a match against Hampshire in Southampton from 4-7 July. It will be followed by a 11-14 match against Somerset at the Kia Oval.

Glad to have this opportunity: Jameson

Surrey CCC Director of Cricket Alec Stewart said: “Kyle Jameson is a fantastic player and we look forward to his joining. He is currently with New Zealand and will be joining our club very soon.

Kyle Jameson said, ‘At first I did not think that this opportunity would have been possible this year. But the way things have changed, I am happy to be associated with the Surrey club. I will be able to get experience of both T20 and first class cricket here. County cricket is something that I wanted to play in my career.

The fast bowler further said, ‘Now that I am getting this opportunity, I am very happy. I have heard many wonderful things about county cricket. Especially about T20 Blast Nights at Kia Oval. I am looking forward to get this chance. With Surrey, my learning and progress will go hand in hand and I will strive to contribute to the success of the team.
