Svishchev called discrimination the behavior of fans with the Ukrainian flag at the Rublev match
MOSCOW, 19 Jan – Dmitry Svishchev, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, called the cries of fans with the Ukrainian flag against Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev in Melbourne an example of discrimination.
Spectators with the flag of Ukraine insulted Rublev during the second round match of the Australian Open against Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (6:2, 6:4, 6:7 (2:7), 6:3). The referee suggested that the tennis player intervene, but Rublev said that the symbol of the neighboring country did not interfere with him – only insults interfere.
Earlier, the Australian Tennis Federation banned spectators from carrying the Russian and Belarusian flags to the stands.
