The BCCI has planned an e-auction to buy two new teams in the IPL. The new teams can be known on 17 October. For this, there have been reports of keeping the bidding process till October 5. PTI has mentioned these things in a news quoting sources.
The BCCI in a statement said that the IPL Governing Council invites bids to acquire ownership and operation rights of 1 of the 2 new teams proposed to participate in the IPL 2022 season through a tender process.
However, the applicants fulfilling the prescribed criteria subject to the terms and conditions will be considered eligible for bidding. Merely on the basis of ITT procured for the bid will not confer any right on any applicant to bid.
The two teams to be selected are Lucknow, Pune and Ahmedabad as mentioned in the race. Narendra Modi Stadium and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium with large spectator capacity may gain priority in bidding for the franchise. Both are new stadiums and the spectator capacity is also high. There has been an IPL team even before Pune.
There are reports of Adani Group, Sanjeev Goenka Group’s name coming up for bidding but nothing has been finalised. Full details will be revealed only after the bidding. The applicants who have asked to pay the highest amount in the bid will be the contenders to buy the team. Applicants with lesser amount will not be allowed to purchase the team. The higher the bid, the higher the chances of buying the team.
This time IPL is being played in two phases due to Corona virus. The first was played in India. Whereas now the second leg will be played in UAE. All the teams have already reached there.
