WBA obliges boxers Usyk and Fury to sign a contract for a duel before April 1
MOSCOW, 19 Mar – The World Boxing Association (WBA) has ordered Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and Briton Tyson Fury to sign a fight contract by April 1, informed organization president Gilberto Mendoza on Twitter.
Earlier, the WBA said that on March 11 they received confirmation from both sides of the agreement to hold the fight. Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has announced that the heavyweight unification bout will take place on April 29. On March 13, the Briton suggested Usyk include a clause on the absence of a rematch in the fight contract. If the teams fail to agree on a contract, the Ukrainian will be obliged to start negotiations about the fight with British representative Daniel Dubois.
Fury defeated compatriot Derek Chisora on December 4 to retain his World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title. After the victory, he challenged the champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA Super), International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Organization (WBO) and International Boxing Organization (IBO) heavyweight Usyk.
The Briton is 34 years old, he does not know defeats in the professional ring (33 wins and one draw). Usyk, 36, also remains undefeated with 20 fights won.
