Hockey player Shesterkin: it’s a great honor for me to win the award for the best goaltender of the season in the NHL

MOSCOW, June 22 – The Russian goalkeeper of the New York Rangers National Hockey League (NHL) club Igor Shesterkin thanked his relatives and teammates for their support, commenting on the victory in the nomination for the prize for the best goaltender of the 2021/22 season.
Igor Shesterkin became the owner of the Vezina Trophy. The award is given to the best goaltender in the NHL during the regular season. The winner is determined by the vote of the general managers of the clubs in the league.
“Everyone knows that my English is not very good, so I’m sorry. It’s a great honor for me to be here and to win this trophy. I want to turn to Juusa Saros and Jakob Markstrom. Guys, you are amazing goalkeepers. I also want to thank my teammates. It’s a pleasure to play “For the Rangers. I am grateful to the coaches who help me, all the fans, my parents. Without their love, I would not be here. Of course, this also applies to my wife. Today she is not with me, as she is expecting a child,” said Shesterkin during the ceremony.
Shesterkin became the third Russian goaltender in NHL history to win Vezina. Previously, the prize went to Sergey Bobrovsky (2013 and 2017) and Andrey Vasilevsky (2019).
In addition to Shesterkin, Finnish Nashville Predators goaltender Juuse Saros and Swede Jakob Markstrom of the Calgary Flames claimed the trophy.
