Former Russian gymnast Varfolomeeva wins four gold medals at the World Championships
MOSCOW, 26 Aug – Daria Varfolomeeva, a native of Barnaul representing Germany, became the winner in the individual all-around at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships, which takes place in Valencia (Spain).
Based on the results of four exercises, she scored 137.450 points. The second place was taken by the Italian Sofia Raffaeli (135.700), the third position was taken by the Israeli Daria Atamanova (131.400).
Varfolomeeva won in all individual disciplines at the World Championships. Previously, she became the strongest in exercises with the ball, hoop, ribbon and clubs.
Varfolomeeva moved to Germany in 2019 and changed her sports citizenship.
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions under its auspices in March 2022 due to the situation in Ukraine. In March 2023, the IOC executive committee recommended that international federations allow Russians who did not support the special operation to compete as neutral athletes. In July, the FIG allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in international competitions in a neutral status from January 1, 2024. At the 2021 World Championships with the participation of the Russian team, Dina Averina won four gold medals out of five in individual disciplines.
