Frenchman Humbert tests positive for coronavirus at Australian Open
MOSCOW, 19 Jan – French tennis player Hugo Humbert tested positive for coronavirus at the Australian Open Grand Slam tournament, the athlete announced on his Instagram.
In the first round, Humbert, seeded at number 29, lost to compatriot Richard Gasquet (6:3, 6:7 (4:7), 6:7 (3:7), 3:6) and ended his performance in the tournament. Gasquet in the third round can play against Russian Daniil Medvedev (2nd seed). This will happen if in the second round the Frenchman beats the Dutchman Botik van de Zandschulp, and the Russian is stronger than the Australian Nick Kiryos.
“Yesterday I got a positive test result before leaving. I will stay one more week in isolation in Australia,” wrote the athlete.
Humbert is 23 years old, he is ranked 40th in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and is the winner of three tournaments under the auspices of the organization. His best result at the Australian Open is reaching the second round.
