MOSCOW, 20 Jul – Australian high jumper Eleanor Patterson won gold at the World Championships in Athletics, which takes place in Eugene, USA.
The result of the athlete is 2.02 meters. The second place was taken by the bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Ukrainian Yaroslav Maguchy, who took a height of 2.02 meters on the second attempt. The third was the Italian Elena Vallortigara (2.00).
In the men’s discus throw, the Slovenian Kristjan Cech (71.13 m) won with the best result of the world championships. He broke the record of Lithuanian Virgilius Alekna, which was set at the 2005 championship in Helsinki. The second was the son of the two-time Olympic champion from Lithuania, Mykolas Alekna (69.27), the third was his compatriot Andrius Gudzhius (67.55).
Britain’s Jake Whiteman won gold in the 1500 meters (3:29.23) with the world’s best season. Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen (3:29.47) took the silver medal, while Spain’s Mohamed Katir (3:29.90) took bronze.
Brazil’s Alisson dos Santos won the 400m hurdles with a world championship record of 46.29. The previous achievement belonged to the American Kevin Young (47.18). The second place was taken by the representative of the USA Ray Benjamin (46.89), the third – his compatriot Trevor Baysitt (47.39).
The Council of the World Athletics Association (World Athletics) on March 1, against the backdrop of events in Ukraine, suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international tournaments, including the World Championships in Eugene. Prior to that, due to a doping scandal, since 2015, the Russians had the right to play in a neutral status. The World Championships in Athletics will end on July 24.
