MOSCOW, 21 July – The taxi driver returned the wallet forgotten in the car to Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, the footballer thanked him only with a T-shirt, Bild reports.
Neuer recently took a taxi ride but forgot his wallet in the car, which contained about 800 euros in cash and all of his credit cards. It is noted that the taxi driver recognized the goalkeeper and tried to return his wallet to him. The driver traveled to places where Neuer could be, but could not find him. He later gave Neuer’s belongings to his assistant at one of the addresses. In total, the taxi driver had to overcome 120 km.
Two weeks later, the taxi driver received a thank you from Neuer, who sent him his T-shirt. However, the driver was dissatisfied with the gift, as he spent about 400 euros during the trip. “Such an award is a mockery! I have four children. I can’t do anything with this jersey,” he said.
The head of the Dresden Football Museum, Jens Genshmar, found out about this story and offered to buy Neuer’s T-shirt for 200 euros in order to at least slightly compensate for the losses of the taxi driver. “I am very sad that now he pays for travel expenses because of his good nature, given the income of Manuel Neuer,” Genshmar said.
Neuer has been with Bayern since 2011. As part of the Munich club, he became a ten-time German champion, won the German Cup five times and the Champions League twice. Together with the German national team, the goalkeeper became the world champion (2014) and the bronze medalist of the world championship (2010).
