Biles became the most decorated US gymnast in the all-around
MOSCOW, 28 Aug – Four-time Olympic champion in gymnastics Simone Biles set the record for winning the all-around U.S. Championships for women and men.
At the tournament in San Jose, Biles received 118.450 points. Sheeliz Jones was second with 114.550 and Leanne Wong was third with 111.100.
For 26-year-old Biles, this is the eighth gold medal in the all-around at the national championships. She broke the record of Alfred Joachim, who won the seventh all-around gold medal at the 1933 U.S. Championships. Also, the gymnast became the oldest athlete who won the tournament. Biles 26 years and 166 days. The previous record was held by Linda Metheny-Mulvihill, who took first place in 1971 at the age of 24 years and 100 days.
In 2023, the American returned to the sport after a two-year pause. In the summer of 2021, Biles at the Tokyo Olympics due to psychological problems withdrew from competitions in the group and individual all-around, from floor exercises, competitions in vault and uneven bars. In the balance beam exercise, the American won bronze. Initially, it was reported that Biles was unable to continue the team competition for medical reasons, but after the athlete stated that she had no injury. According to her, she did not want to continue to compete due to “a little damage to pride” after a failed vault.
On account of the 26-year-old Biles four gold, one silver and two bronze medals of the Olympic Games. Also, the American is a 19-time world champion.
