MOSCOW, 21 July – The head coach of the Hungarian football club “Ferencvaros” Russian Stanislav Cherchesov said he was pleased with the game of his team in the first match of the second qualifying round of the Champions League against the Slovak “Slovan”.
The meeting in Budapest on Wednesday ended with a score of 2:1 in favor of Slovan, the players of the Slovak team scored two goals in the end, winning a strong-willed victory.
“Unfortunately, the match doesn’t always work out the way we want. The God of football sometimes rewrites our plans. I can be happy with the whole game, except for five minutes, the statistics show. This match did not go well, we hope that the dice will be rolled next week” Cherchesov, quoted by Nemzeti Sport, said at a press conference.
“There was no particular reason why we lost control. Perhaps there was a little lack of concentration when the opposition managed to equalize, but that’s part of football. I have one task – to prepare the team as best as possible for the second leg. We lost the ball than I was able to use Slovan, we need to fix it,” Cherchesov added.
The former head coach of the Russian national team has been in charge of Ferencvaros since December last year. Last season, the club under his leadership became the champion and owner of the Hungarian Cup. Slovan’s head coach is Vladimir Weiss, who worked at Saturn near Moscow in 2006-2007.
The second leg will take place on July 27 in Bratislava.
