The FFCH and FPF have previously demanded that the FIFA disciplinary committee disqualify the Ecuador national team due to the participation of footballer Byron Castillo, accused of falsifying documents, in World Cup qualifiers. After the refusal, Chile and Peru went to the FIFA appeal committee, which also rejected their request.
The FPF’s appeal is directed against the Ecuadorian Football Federation and FIFA. The Peruvian national team expects to replace the Ecuadorians as the team that finished in the qualifying tournament with a line below in the table. The FFCH is demanding that CAS admit that Castillo was ineligible to play for the Ecuadorian national team in World Cup qualifiers and declare the matches in which he took part no longer held. Then the Chilean team will take fourth place in the South American qualifying group and enter the tournament. FPF and FFCH ask that CAS make a final decision no later than 10 November.
According to the Chilean side, Byron Castillo was born in 1998 in Colombia, and his name appeared in the database of Ecuador only in 2012. Castillo, aged 23, is a native of the Ecuadorian city of Playas, according to Ecuadorians.
The Ecuador national team scored 26 points and took fourth place in the standings of the qualifying tournament, which gives a direct ticket to the World Cup. Team Chile (19 points) finished seventh. The Peru national team (24 points) took fifth place and lost in the play-offs for the World Cup to the Australians.
The Ecuador national team is scheduled to play in the 2022 World Cup in Group A with the teams of Senegal, the Netherlands and the hosts of the tournament – the national team of Qatar.
