England Cricket Team’s legendary all-rounder Chris Woakes has made a big statement about not playing in the second phase of IPL. He has said that he wanted to give more priority to the T20 World Cup and Ashes series and for this reason withdrew his name from the IPL.
Chris Woakes wants to keep himself fully fit for international matches and this is the reason why he decided not to play in IPL. Woakes is currently playing for his county team Warwickshire and after that he wants to play in the T20 World Cup and the Ashes.
I had to leave IPL for international matches – Chris Woakes
According to Woakes, England has to play many big matches in the next few months and for this reason they had to give up the IPL. In a conversation with The Guardian, he said,
There is not much gap between the World Cup and the Ashes series. I would have definitely loved to play in the IPL but to play in the World Cup and the Ashes, it was necessary to give up something or the other. Like 2019, this time too a big season is for us. There has been a lot of turmoil due to Corona but from the perspective of a cricketer, I am very excited about the upcoming season.
According to Chris Woakes, he did not know that he would be selected in the England team for the T20 World Cup and after that the IPL was also postponed. he adds,
I did not know that I would be selected in the World Cup team. Especially a few months ago it was not expected at all. IPL also got rescheduled.
If we talk about Chris Woakes, he was part of the Delhi Capitals team in the IPL. In the first half, he took five wickets in three matches. After his ouster, Delhi Capitals have included Ben Dwarshuis of Australia in the team as a replacement.
