MOSCOW, 19 Jul – American mixed martial arts fighter Nate Diaz will face Swedish athlete of Chechen origin Khamzat Chimaev in September, journalist Brett Okamoto reports on Twitter, citing Hunter Campbell, Chief Business Officer of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
According to him, a verbal agreement was reached between the fighters to fight at the UFC 279 tournament, which will take place on September 10. This fight will be the last for Diaz under a contract with the UFC. Also, the duel on his Instagram (the activities of Meta (social networks Facebook and Instagram) are banned in Russia as extremist) was announced by Chimaev himself.
Earlier, Diaz said that he was in talks with the Chimaev team, but for more than six months the fight broke down. The American noted that he would like to leave the UFC after the expiration of the contract.
Chimaev is 27 years old, he has 11 victories in mixed martial arts and not a single defeat. All victories, except for the last one, he won ahead of schedule no later than the second round.
Diaz is 37 years old and has 20 wins and 13 losses. In March 2015, he inflicted the first defeat in the UFC to the Irishman Conor McGregor, who later became the organization’s first ever two-weight champion. Diaz last fought in June last year, losing to Briton Leon Edwards.
