MOSCOW, 27 Jul – Russian driver Daniil Kvyat said that after Formula 1 he had not seen anything cooler than the National Association of Stock Car Racing (NASCAR).
Kvyat will make his NASCAR debut with Team Hezeberg on July 31 at the Indianapolis circuit. Practice and qualification will take place on July 30. It is expected that he will also take part in races at the circuits in Watkins Glen and Charlotte.
“Now I want to give my all in NASCAR and do my best to become very competitive. I wanted to start with something really cool after leaving Formula 1. After Formula 1, I have not seen anything cooler than NASCAR , that’s for sure,” Kvyat was quoted as saying by motorsport.com.
“The NASCAR series has a very rich history and is extremely popular in the US and around the world. They managed to keep a balance between modern and old school racing. I was very curious to try it. It’s a very difficult race. For several years I tried to get here, and finally I this opportunity presented itself,” he added.
In February, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced the cancellation of the Russian Formula 1 round amid the situation in Ukraine and allowed Russian drivers to take part in competitions only in a neutral status. In March, Kvyat refused to sign the FIA declaration of commitment to the principles of peace and political neutrality.
Kvyat is the most successful Russian driver in Formula 1 history. He has three podiums, one fastest lap and 202 points. The Russian was a Formula 1 driver from 2013 to 2017 and from 2019 to 2020. In the 2021 season, he was a reserve driver for the Alpin team.
