MOSCOW, 24 July – Danish Jonas Wingegaard of the Jumbo-Visma team won the general classification of the Tour de France stage race.
Wingegaard took 77th place in the final, 21st stage of the cycling race, which finished in Paris. The Belgian rider of the Alpecin-Deceuninck team, Jesper Philipsen, became the first, who covered the distance of 115.6 km in 2 hours 58 minutes 32 seconds. The Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen of Bikeexchange-Jayco finished second, while Norwegian Alexander Kristoff of Intermarche – Wanty – Gobert Materiaux finished third. Russian Bora-Hansgrohe cyclist Alexander Vlasov, who competes under a neutral flag, was 25th.
Wingegaard won the Tour de France for the first time. The second place was taken by the winner of the Tour de France 2020 and 2021 Slovenian Tadej Pogacar from UAE Team Emirates, the third place was taken by the winner of the 2018 stage race Geraint Thomas from Ineos Grenadiers. Vlasov, for whom this “Tour de France” was the first in his career, became the fifth.
