MOSCOW, 10 Aug – The International Football Federation (FIFA) may postpone the start of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar from November 21 to November 20, according to Marca, citing Diario Ole.
According to the source, this decision is due to the fact that the host team of the tournament, according to the established tradition, should open the championship, however, in the current schedule, before the game of Qatar and Ecuador there are matches between the Netherlands – Senegal and England – Iran, since in April FIFA postponed the start of the meeting of the Qataris with Ecuadorians in group A from 13:00 to 19:00 Moscow time. In the event of a change in the schedule, Qatar’s meeting with Ecuador will take place a day earlier and will again become the first in the tournament.
The decision on a possible change in the schedule of the tournament will be made by voting with the participation of FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the heads of six football confederations.
The 2022 World Cup is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 18. The world championship will be held without the participation of the Russian national team: at the end of February, FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) published a joint statement according to which Russian teams and clubs were suspended from participation in all international competitions for an indefinite period.
