Former Brazil footballer Alex successfully undergoes heart bypass surgery

MOSCOW, 4 June – Former Brazil national football team defender Alex left the intensive care unit after successfully undergoing heart bypass surgery.
“I would like to disprove reports that I had a heart attack. I discovered a health problem a few days ago and the doctors decided to give me a bypass. I had four arteries blocked. I just got out of intensive care, I will stay in the hospital for another six days,” Alex said in a video posted on Twitter by his former club Santos.
Alex is 39 years old, in addition to the Brazilian Santos, he played for the English Chelsea, the Dutch PSV, the French Paris Saint-Germain, the Italian Milan. He won the national championships of Brazil, the Netherlands, England and France, as well as the Champions League (2012 ) with Chelsea and won the 2007 Copa América with Brazil.
The footballer retired from the sport in 2016.
