MOSCOW, 9 Sep — Fans of the Turkish Fenerbahce came to the match with Dynamo Kyiv with the flag of Russia and put on masks depicting President Vladimir Putin, the Haberler portal reported.
The released footage shows a group of fans in the street wearing masks of the Russian leader, holding a large tricolor, and a fan who also put a picture of Putin on his face.
The match ended with the score 2:1 in favor of the Turkish team.
In July, during a meeting between Fenerbahce and Dynamo Kyiv, fans of the Istanbul club, in response to a provocative gesture by Ukrainian football player Vitaly Buyalsky, began chanting the name and surname of the Russian president. According to media reports, because of this, the head coach of Kiev Mircea Lucescu did not come to the post-match press conference.
After the incident, UEFA fined the Istanbul club 50,000 euros and punished it with a partial closure of the stands. Fenerbahce condemned the behavior of their fans, but club president Ali Koç said the Turkish side would not apologize to Ukraine over the incident.
