Fedor was spared at Bellator. Instead of Bader, an aged UFC superstar
Emelianenko’s dream of revenge will not come true – but he will not lose by knockout.
In recent months, many names of possible rivals for Fedor Emelianenko have appeared. It is planned that the Last Emperor will have one more duel, after which he will end his career. Fedor himself is aiming for a rematch with Ryan Bader in a title fight in order to finish as beautifully as possible, but it seems that the head of Bellator Scott Cocker has other plans.
In a conversation with journalist Ariel Helwani, Cocker said that a couple of months ago he spoke with a representative of Anderson Silva, who will soon have a boxing match against Jake Paul. “We offered Silva a fight in MMA against Emelianenko. We didn’t even have serious conversations about money or anything like that, but there was contact from our side. We wanted to know what Silva thinks about it. At the time, he wanted to focus entirely on boxing. Let’s see how far he can go.
We could do this fight in Japan or in New York at Madison Square Garden. This is the confrontation that everyone would like to see. The best fighter will meet in the cage against the second best. To be honest, it will be difficult to agree on a weight category, but first you need to start a dialogue, and then we’ll see. Anderson and I had a short conversation and a concrete answer, so I then abandoned this idea, but I hope that we can return to him as soon as possible, ”Coker said.
At first glance, the fight between Fedor and Silva is interesting and competitive. Who wouldn’t want to watch one of the UFC’s greatest fighters fight against the best outside of the promotion? The UFC champion and record holder for the most consecutive victories against the owner of the Pride belt sounds like a poster of the year. But there are two fat minuses that make this fight worse than it seems.
The first and main Cocker named himself – Silva never competed in the heavy category. Throughout his career, the Spider fought in middleweight and light heavyweight, and recruiting for the sake of one fight is hardly what he needs at all. Of course, Fedor is not the biggest heavyweight either – in the last fight he showed 105 kg – but in any case, Silva will have to gain about ten kilos to take the fight.

The Brazilian has not fought according to the rules of MMA for two years. This is too long a downtime even for an athlete like Silva, considering that the Spider is already 47 years old. If the fight takes place, Fedor, who regularly trains and works with students, will definitely be a big favorite.
But it seems that the fight with Bader will still remain an unfulfilled dream of Emelianenko Sr. If Scott Cocker really saw the meaning and competition in this fight, he would have organized it long ago. But the Bellator boss is actively looking for other, simpler options for Fedor. It is unlikely that the Last Emperor himself asked the opponent to be simpler – it is probably Cocker who wants Fedor to really end his career beautifully, and not by knockout in the first round.
