The pilot of “Aston Martin” Alonso returned to third place and a hundredth podium in the “Formula 1”
MOSCOW, 20 Mar – The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has canceled the punishment imposed on the driver of the Formula 1 team Aston Martin Fernando Alonso after the finish of the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix race, and returned the podium to the Spaniard.
In the Jeddah race, Alonso finished third despite a 5-second penalty at the start of the race for incorrectly positioning his car on the grid. The Spaniard managed to celebrate the 100th podium in his career, when it became known that 10 seconds were added to his result at the finish line for incorrectly serving a fine. Because of this, the two-time world champion dropped to fourth position in the final protocol of the race, passing Briton George Russell (“Mercedes”). Aston Martin filed a protest.
Thus, Alonso regained third place in the race and will receive 15 points for his performance instead of 12.
