Figure skating is the most mentioned sport at the Beijing Games

MOSCOW, 21 Feb – Figure skating has become the most mentioned sport in English and Russian social media at the XXIV Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. This is evidenced by a study conducted as part of a joint project and Brand Analytics dedicated to the Beijing Olympics.
Figure skating (489,813) topped the rating of Russian-language social media in terms of mention. The second position is occupied by cross-country skiing (252,865), followed by ice hockey (150,002). Fourth place went to biathlon (116,921) and fifth to speed skating (61,403).
Freestyle (57,600) took sixth place in terms of the number of mentions, short track – seventh (42,973), curling – eighth (37,134), skiing – ninth (32,838). Closed the top ten ski jumping (28 660).
The last five positions were distributed between such sports as snowboarding (24,977), bobsleigh (20,932), luge (18,986), skeleton (17,049) and Nordic combined (8,438).

The list of English-language social media was also topped by figure skating (242,747). The second line of the rating was occupied by curling (71,116), the third – hockey (61,031). The fourth place was strengthened by the snowboard (60,522). After comes speed skating (39,768), then freestyle (36,108). Alpine skiing took the seventh position (26,445). Next comes biathlon (20,006). Ski jumping settled in ninth position (18,021). In 10th place is the short track (15,319).
Bobsleigh ranked 11th with 15,075 mentions online. Cross-country skiing (12,763) moved to 12th place in the ranking. The last three places were distributed between: skeleton (11,238), luge (9,298) and Nordic combined (7,996).
