NOVOSIBIRSK, September 18 – The football club “Novosibirsk” will be renamed “Siberia” after a vote among fans on the election, the club’s press service reports.

The voting took place on Sunday in Novosibirsk during the team’s match with Ivanovo’s Tekstilshchik in the Second League. Fans were asked to choose one title out of three. 1,111 people (74.11%) voted for “Sibir”, 246 (16.41%) for “Chkalovets”, and 137 (9.13%) for “Novosibirsk”.

“Congratulations to all fans on the end of voting! We are Sibir, we can’t be stopped!” the club said.

The new general director of Novosibirsk, Alexei Tolokonsky, announced plans to change the name, taking into account the interests of fans, in July. According to him, the legal and organizational change of name should occur in the summer of 2024.
