MOSCOW, 21 July – Four-time Tour de France winner Briton Chris Froome has withdrawn from the Tour de France multi-day cycling race due to the coronavirus, according to the Israel-Premier Tech team’s official Twitter account.
On Thursday, the 18th stage of the Tour de France will take place, with a length of 143.5 kilometers.
“Unfortunately, Chris Froome will not be at the start of Stage 18, as a coronavirus test done shortly before the start of the race showed that he had contracted the coronavirus. All other riders on the team have tested negative and are ready to race,” reads the statement. Israel – Premier Tech statement.
Spaniard Imanol Erviti from Movistar and Italian Damiano Caruso from Team Bahrain Victorious also received positive test results for coronavirus, as the teams reported on their social networks.
Froome is 26th in the general classification, 1 hour 27 minutes and 14 seconds behind the leader. Dane Jonas Wingegaard of Jumbo-Visma is first (67 hours 53 minutes 54 seconds).
