MOSCOW, 20 Jul – French foil fencer Enzo Lefort has won the Fencing World Championships in Cairo.
In the fight for gold, he defeated the Italian Tommaso Marini and became a three-time world champion. Bronze medals were won by American Nick Itkin and Tokyo Olympic champion Cheung Kalun (Hong Kong). At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Lefort won a victory as part of the French team.
In women’s saber competition, Japanese Misaki Emura became the best, Anna Bashta from Azerbaijan, who represented Russia until 2019, won silver. Bronze medals were won by Spaniard Araceli Navarro and Greek Despina Georgiadu.
On Thursday at the World Championships, team competitions for epee fencers and foil fencers will be held.
The World Championship in Cairo will end on July 23rd. In March, the International Fencing Federation (FIE) temporarily suspended Russian athletes from participating in competitions under its auspices due to the situation in Ukraine. At the previous World Championships, which took place in 2019 in Budapest, Russian athletes took first place in the medal standings.
