French President Macron congratulates Karim Benzema on winning the Ballon d’Or
MOSCOW, 18 Oct – French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated Real Madrid striker and national team Karim Benzema, who on Monday received the France Football Ballon d’Or award as the best player of the 2021/22 season.
The solemn ceremony, at which the name of the winner of the award was announced, took place at the Chatelet theater in Paris. 34-year-old Benzema won the Ballon d’Or for the first time.
Benzema became the fifth French representative to be awarded the Ballon d’Or. The award has previously been given to Raymond Copa (1958), Michel Platini (1983, 1984, 1985), Jean-Pierre Papin (1991) and Zinedine Zidane (1998).
