Two new teams will be added in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as well as there will be a mega auction. In the 13-year history of the IPL, out of the current eight teams, three teams have not won the title and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is also included in this list. In 2009 and 2016, RCB came close to the title, but had to be content with the runner-up. In 2020 and 2021, RCB made it to the playoffs but could not reach the final. RCB suffered a defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Eliminator match in the 2021 IPL and with this defeat RCB’s journey in IPL 2021 also ended. Gautam Gambhir has given his opinion about which players should RCB retain in IPL 2022. Out of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal, Gambhir has spoken about the three players this franchise should retain.
On ESPNcricinfo’s show ‘Yes or No’, Gambhir was asked whether Virat, Maxwell and Chahal should retain RCB, to which he replied, ‘Yes, but I would also like to add Harshal Patel’s name to it. Between Harshal or Chahal, it has to be seen who the franchise would like to ripen. “I think RCB will retain Maxwell as he is the future and ABD is not the future,” Gambhir said. ABD scored 313 runs in 15 matches this season, while Maxwell scored 513 runs in the same number of matches.
ABD is 37 years old, while Maxwell is 33 years old now. Maxwell not only performed brilliantly with the bat, but also contributed to the team reaching the playoffs with the help of bowling. Virat had already announced before the start of the second phase of IPL 2021 season that this is his last IPL as captain. Now it has to be seen which players RCB buys in the next season and who makes them the next captain of the team.
