Nominees for Golden Boy - 2022

More than half are from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

A month ago, Tuttosport published a list of 100 players competing for the award for the best young player in Europe under 21 years old. There were no Russian players among the potential winners, but Ukrainian Dynamo Kyiv defender Ilya Zabarny did. And the “Championship” has identified seven top nominees out of 100 for the Golden Boy award – 2022.

Jude Bellingham, Borussia Dortmund

Bellingham is the most expensive player on our list (€80m). He played 44 of Borussia’s 46 matches in the 2021/2022 season and scored six goals and 14 assists. The Englishman was the leader of the team that ended the season in second place. This summer, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United showed interest in the midfielder, but according to Bild, Borussia will not sell their player for less than € 120 million. Jude is one of the favorites for Golden Boy. And in Borussia there was already a player who won this award – Erling Haaland.

Jamal Musiala, Bayern

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has made 40 appearances in the 2021/2022 season, but has come on as a substitute more often than he has been in the starting lineup. Despite this, Musiala not only won the championship and the German Super Cup, but also scored 8 + 6 in the “goal + pass” system and became the youngest player in Bayern with 50 matches in the Bundesliga.

Gavi, Barcelona

Gavi is the new star of Barcelona. The Spaniard immediately became the starting player in the 2021/2022 season, made his debut in the national team, where he also immediately gained a foothold. Having rewritten several records, the midfielder has added to his performance statistics – he has two goals and six assists in La Liga. Gavi’s contract with Barcelona runs until the summer of 2023, but will be re-signed this summer. According to Marca, the 17-year-old has a release clause of €1 billion.

Eduardo Camavinga, Real Madrid

Although Camavinga became the champion, winner of the Spanish Super Cup and the winner of the Champions League, his chances of winning the nomination are not so high. Firstly, the Frenchman was not a starter in the 2021/2022 season. Secondly, Camavinga did not contribute much to the success of his team, like his competitors. If Eduard manages to become the owner of the award, then, most likely, this is due to the trophies won with Real Madrid.

Karim Adeyemi, Borussia D

Adeyemi is following in Holland’s footsteps. This summer, he signed a five-year contract with Borussia Dortmund. For Red Bull Salzburg, the striker scored 23 goals in 44 matches in all competitions and will now have to fully replace the Norwegian in the bumblebee camp. Together with the Austrian club, the German became the champion and won the National Cup. By the way, Adeyemi is the winner of the European Youth Championship 2021.

Ryan Gravenberch, Bayern

By the age of 20, Gravenberch had played more than 100 matches for Ajax at a high level. At the same time, the central midfielder could have played a few more games if not for the coronavirus and an ankle injury at the end of the season. Based on the composition of Bayern, Gravenberch has one competitor – Leon Goretzka, who will miss the start of the season and return to the cage in mid-September. The Dutchman is already a three-time national champion and a two-time Dutch Cup winner.

Yoshko Guardiol, RB Leipzig

The season at Leipzig was a success for Guardiol: he was the main defender, played almost 50 matches and won the German Cup. Due to rapid progress, several clubs claim Joshko this summer: Tottenham, Barcelona and Chelsea. The Blues want the Croat to replace Cesar Azpilicueta, who is about to become a Barcelona player. Given the contract until the summer of 2026, Chelsea will have to pay at least € 40 million for the central defender. But will Leipzig agree to let him go?
