MOSCOW, 28 Jul – Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton declaredthat it was an honor for him to call the German pilot Sebastian Vettel his rival and friend.
On Thursday, the four-time world champion announced that he would retire from Formula 1 after the 2022 season.
“Seb, it was an honor to call you a rival and an even greater honor to call you my friend. This sport has become better with your arrival – this is our goal. I have no doubt that everything that lies ahead for you will be exciting, meaningful and rewarding Love you mate,” the Mercedes driver wrote on Twitter.
“I am so sad that you are leaving, but at the same time I am happy for you and the new chapter in your life. You were and remain a very important person to me, and I am grateful for our friendship. Thank you for everything you brought to the sport which we both love. Can’t wait for our last races together. Thank you Seb, you are an inspiration.” wrote German pilot “Haas” Mick Schumacher.

You are definitely one of the reasons why I fell in love with this sport, you have always been one of my main reference points both on the race track and for I will always cherish every moment we spent together I am sure that the next chapter will be as exciting as the previous one and I sincerely wish you and your family all the best for the future Let’s finish this season on a high level with great races,” wrote Spanish Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz on Instagram*.
Vettel became the champion of Formula 1 four times (2010-2013), won 53 races and climbed the podium 122 times. In terms of the number of victories, he is second only to Briton Lewis Hamilton (103) and German Michael Schumacher (91). This season, 35-year-old Vettel is 14th in the driver’s standings with 15 points, while his Aston Martin is ninth and penultimate in the Constructors’ Championship.
