New York Rangers Goaltender Shesterkin Named 2021-22 NHL Goalie of the Year
MOSCOW, June 22 – The Russian goalkeeper of the club of the National Hockey League (NHL) New York Rangers Igor Shesterkin became the owner of the Vezina Trophy.
The award is given to the best goaltender in the NHL during the regular season. The winner is determined by the vote of the general managers of the clubs in the league.
In the past regular season, Shesterkin played 53 games and scored six shutouts. The Russian goalkeeper is the leader of the NHL season in terms of reliability coefficient (2.07) and percentage of saved shots (93.5%).
Shesterkin became the third Russian goaltender in NHL history to win Vezina. Previously, the prize went to Sergey Bobrovsky (2013 and 2017) and Andrey Vasilevsky (2019).
In addition to Shesterkin, Finnish Nashville Predators goaltender Juuse Saros and Swede Jakob Markstrom of the Calgary Flames claimed the trophy.
