IPL 2020 News: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) postponed the IPL to 15 April due to the increasing influence of Coronavirus.
On Saturday, April 14, Board President Sourav Ganguly, IPL Governing Council, and eight franchisees attended the meeting on IPL 2020.
After the meeting, Ganguly indicated that this time the IPL will be shorter. Earlier this tournament was to be played from 29 March to 24 May. But now new dates will be announced.
All franchisees want a complete IPL like 2009. The tournament was then held in South Africa due to the Lok Sabha elections.
All the matches were completed in 37 days. This time the tournament schedule was 57 days. As of 15 April, 18 of these days have been reduced due to the postponement of the tournament.
Now the challenge for the board is to make all the matches in the remaining 39 days or the tournament will be extended from May 24 onwards.
Ganguly said after the meeting, “If the situation improves then the 13th season of IPL will be short. Because there is already a delay of 15 days. In this case, it will have to be shortened. At the moment it is not decided how small the tournament will be, how many matches will be reduced.”
After the meeting, a franchisee said, “A tournament can happen like in 2009. It is not right to say anything right now. If the circumstances are right, then everything will be as per schedule. There are no other dates for the IPL. It will be in April and May only. It is expected that the temperature will rise soon. We can start the tournament on April 20. “
More than 5000 people have died worldwide due to coronavirus. About 2 million people are infected with the coronavirus.
