The new coach of “Spartak” Abascal was supposed to lead the “youth team” of “Basel”
MOSCOW, June 10 – Spanish specialist Guillermo Abascal, appointed as the new coach of Spartak Moscow, was supposed to lead the Basel youth team before the new season, but eventually asked to terminate the contract, reported on the Swiss football club’s Twitter page.
Spartak announced the appointment of the 33-year-old Spaniard as head coach of the team earlier on Friday. In this post, Abascal replaced the Italian Paolo Vanoli, who left Spartak a day earlier.
Abascal took over as Basel manager in February, with his contract running until the end of the season. After it was planned that he would lead the “youth team”, but in the end the Spaniard asked the Swiss club to terminate the agreement “due to a new challenge”.
Prior to Basel, Abascal was the head coach of the Italian Ascoli, the Greek Volos, as well as the Swiss Chiasso and Lugano. The specialist began coaching in the youth team of the Spanish Sevilla, and was also part of the coaching staff of Unai Emery.
