MOSCOW, 25 Jan – The men’s and women’s Candidates Tournaments will be held in April 2024, according to the website of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
Each tournament will feature eight participants. The recommended total prize pool for both tournaments is €750,000. The duration of the competition will be 22 days. Tournament regulations must be approved before July 1, 2023.
Russian chess player Ian Nepomniachtchi won the Candidates Tournament in Madrid in early July and won the right to play the title match against world champion Magnus Carlsen again in 2023. However, the Norwegian on July 20 refused to participate in the fight. The Russian now has to meet for the world title with Ding Liren, who became the second in the competition in Spain.
