The other day, the name of Novak Djokovic surfaced in the application lists of the tournament in Cincinnati, as well as at the US Open. Does this mean that the US will let a Serb into the country? No. Or 50%, which is not. The lists themselves do not mean anything, this is just a basic procedure: the organizers make it clear that they are waiting for Nola – the bosses are not against his appearance on the courts even without vaccination. Unlike local authorities, the continent remains almost the only place in the world where the borders have not yet been opened: entry for the vaccinated. Although recently they canceled tests for covid before departure.
“The situation is quite simple. Either the Canadian authorities are changing the vaccination rules, or Novak will have to roll up his sleeve and get vaccinated against the coronavirus. I consider both options unlikely, ”said Eugene Lapierre, director of the Masters in Montreal, in Canada the same rules.
What Serb fans around the world are rebelling against: they have not yet taken to the streets, as in January in Australia, but they have prepared a whole petition. A document appeared on Change.org calling for a 21-time player to play in the US.

“At this stage of the pandemic, there is absolutely no reason not to allow Djokovic to play at the 2022 US Open. The US government and the USTA must cooperate to allow him to play. If unvaccinated American players can play, then Djokovic, as one of the legends of the game, should be allowed to play. USTA, make it happen!”
As an example, in their opinion, of a clear contradiction, the mentioned American, world No. 343 Tennis Sandgren, who is not on the USO lists, but can get into any home tournament even by wildcard or through qualification. The fact is that he has the right to do this, although, like Novak, he has not yet taken root. Entry rules do not apply to locals, and Tennis quietly moves around the world and plays international tournaments – it was also at Roland Garros.
Djokovic to be knocked out of top 3 due to US Open ban? Why world tennis is quietly draining the Serb
On the side of the Serb, even local officials and the former top government. American politician Richard Grenell, who in 2020 was the acting director of US National Intelligence, publicly called on social networks for Novak to still receive permission to enter the country.
“Let Djokovic play at the US Open! The tournament will devalue itself if it bans one of the best players in the world.”
Texas Senate member Drew Springer is addressing US President Joe Biden at all. On Twitter, he even added the hashtag #LetNovakPlay (“Let Novak play”).
“Biden bans Novak Djokovic from coming to the US to compete in the US Open, but allows millions of unvaccinated illegal immigrants to cross the border. Hey Joe! How about another unvaccinated one?!”
The Serb was also supported by a member of the US Congress, Claudia Tenney. “It’s absolutely disgusting. Novak Djokovic is the best ultra-elite tennis player in the world but is unable to compete in a major US sporting event due to politics,” Tenney tweeted.

“We need to do something to get him to play at the US Open. Djokovic should play there. Please do something for this incredible champion to play there!” – ex-tennis player John McEnroe, one of the few Serb colleagues, said.
Novak was praised for his tenacity and principles by British politician Claire Fox. “He did a great job with what happened at the Australian Open. But he does not even whine about this and clearly argues his position. It’s cool, he’s not just a brilliant tennis player, he’s a brilliant tennis player with principles.”
The possible appearance of a Serb in Australia in 2023 against the backdrop of an alleged American ban seems also curious. Despite the fact that Novak was previously banned from entering the country for three years, the new authorities do not exclude his appearance next season. According to the Daily Mail, Prime Minister of the green continent Anthony Albanese will be on the side of Djokovic in this matter. However, how selective!?
It turns out that the man is just a big fan of tennis and plays this sport several times a week. He doesn’t want the tournament to lose its nine-time winner again. Now the prime minister is in close dialogue with Tennis Australia and is inclined to lift the three-year ban – the Serb received it after the decision of the Federal Court of Australia to deport the former world number one from the country. That document was signed by former Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
As you know, Tennis Australia throughout the entire epic with the Serb at the beginning of the year was not against his appearance, which means that one or a couple of people in the government decide? And, most importantly, do you have to be just a tennis fan?
Does not refute the inside and the director of the Australian Open Craig Tiley: “We are doing everything possible. It is clear that it will not be my decision whether he can play AO. But Novak is always welcome, he knows that many in Australia enjoy watching him play. The decision must be made by others. There’s still a long way to go before the Australian Open next year.”

In the meantime, the organizers of the US Open have issued a cold statement about the possible participation of unvaccinated players in the tournament. “The US Open does not require players to be vaccinated, but will respect the position of the US government regarding the entry of unvaccinated non-US citizens into the country.”
“Keep your profession.” Does the statement of Kasatkina and Rublev prophesy the flight of athletes?
Does not defend the interests of the Serb and the local tennis association – USTA. It influences the organization of the American Major. As, however, the Lawn Tennis Association – LTA – in the UK, which was nevertheless pressured by the ATP and WTA tours after the removal of Russians and Belarusians. So by the end of the year, Novak may have already lost six thousand points out of the blue – the tours have deprived Wimbledon of the rating, and he was not allowed to the AO. They don’t let me defend the final or fight for the title in America either. The Serb is already the seventh, and if he ends up on the TBSH only in the dirt season of 2023, then he will slide even lower.
