MOSCOW, 24 July – Italy’s Massimo Stano won the gold medal in the 35 km race walk at the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene, USA.
The athlete covered the distance in 2 hours 23 minutes 14 seconds. Japan’s Masatora Kavano finished second in 2:23.15 and Sweden’s Perseus Carlström was third in 2:23.44.
Competitions at a distance of 35 km for men were held for the first time as part of the world championships in athletics.
The World Championships in Athletics will end on July 24. The Council of the World Athletics Association (World Athletics) on March 1, against the backdrop of events in Ukraine, suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international tournaments, including the World Championships in Eugene. Prior to that, due to a doping scandal, since 2015, the Russians had the right to play in a neutral status.
