MOSCOW, 29 Jul – The WTA 250 tournament, which was supposed to be held in Japan on September 12-18, has been canceled due to financial difficulties, according to the Japan Tennis Association (JTA) website.
The JTA has worked with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) to explore various options for hosting the tournament, including changing venues and attracting new sponsors. However, it was decided that the tournament could not be held.
The Women’s Japan Open was to be held at the Osaka Tennis Center. It has not been held since 2019 – in 2020 and 2021 the tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
