The surgery of the Indian cricketer and regular captain of the IPL team Punjab Kings KL Rahul was successful and he can return to the team.
He was sent by the franchise to Mumbai by chartered plane and underwent a laparoscopic appendectomy, which is a minor surgery. It is believed that the doctors have told the officials associated with the Punjab Kings team that Rahul will be able to resume all activities after a week’s rest.
Punjab Kings franchise can talk to IPL officials regarding Rahul’s quarantine period. Apart from this, they will consult for determining other protocols so that Rahul can rejoin the team’s bio-bubble. However, they have to follow all the rules to start playing again.
In the absence of Rahul, Mayank Agarwal is heading the Punjab team. A few hours before the match against Delhi Capitals, information about Rahul’s surgery was given.
However, Mayank had to face defeat in the first match under his captaincy and Punjab was defeated by Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets in the match played in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Mayank though played an unbeaten inning of 99 runs, but Shikhar Dhawan ditched it.
The Punjab team had earlier issued a statement saying that Rahul was having a lot of pain in the stomach. Rahul last played in the league on 30 April and played a key role in Punjab’s win against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Then he scored an unbeaten 91 runs and the team won the match by 34 runs.
Rahul is currently among the top scorers of the tournament having scored 331 runs in seven innings at an average of 66.20. His strike rate is 136.21 and he has scored four half-centuries so far in the fourth season of the league. The King’s team and fans will be eager to get him back on the field as soon as possible. The Punjab team has so far won three of the eight matches and is at number six in the table.
