Klopp says Mane missed penalty in FA Cup final
MOSCOW, May 15 – Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has claimed some responsibility for Sadio Mane’s missed penalty in the FA Cup final.
Liverpool won the FA Cup on Saturday after beating London’s Chelsea in the final on penalties. Liverpool striker Mane, performing his 11-meter kick, could not beat the goalkeeper.
“Sadio’s penalties are at least 50 percent my responsibility because you have to let the players do what they want. But I told him, ‘The goalkeeper knows exactly how you shoot, so do it the other way around.’ Once again, I learned a lesson about that it is better to remain silent!” – said at the post-match press conference Klopp, quoted by the site of “Liverpool”.
“We had a great first 25 minutes, but we didn’t score. There were ups and downs in the game, they had chances, we had chances, but no one took them. So the penalty shoot-out is a logical thing. When you win, it feels good, but you understand how hard it must be for the opponents. It would be very hard for us to concede after 120 minutes. So my respect for Chelsea and what they did,” the Liverpool manager summed up the game.
In February, in the final of the English League Cup at Wembley, Liverpool and Chelsea also brought matters to a penalty shoot-out, which was won by the Merseysiders with a score of 11:10.
