Laporta: Very happy Lewandowski wants to join Barcelona
MOSCOW, July 3 – Barcelona President Joan Laporta has said he is delighted that Bayern Munich’s Polish striker Robert Lewandowski wants to play for the Blue Garnets.
Earlier it was reported that Barcelona made a third offer to Bayern for the transfer of Lewandowski, increasing the transfer amount to 40 million euros, as well as bonus payments. It was also noted that Lewandowski himself would like to move to the Spanish team before July 12, when the Munich football club will begin pre-season training.
“Lewandowski is a Bayern player, and I prefer not to talk too much about this situation. We are very pleased that he wants to join Barcelona. We want to thank him for this,” journalist Fabrizio Romano quoted Laporta on his Twitter.
Lewandowski’s contract with Bayern runs until the summer of 2023. The Pole said earlier in the press that he was counting on a transfer, as he had lost interest in playing for the club.
Lewandowski joined Bayern Munich in 2014 from Borussia Dortmund. As part of the Munich club, he played 375 matches, scored 344 goals and became the champion of Germany eight times. In 2020, he won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup. As part of the Polish national team, Lewandowski played 129 matches in which he scored 75 goals, he is the top scorer in the history of the national team. The striker was named the best player in the world according to the International Football Federation in 2020 and 2021.
