MOSCOW, 19 Jul – Nizhnekamsk “Neftekhimik” terminated the contract with the Czech defender Lukas Klok due to the pressure of the player at home, said the director of the club of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) Igor Larionov.
The agreement with the 27-year-old Czech was calculated until April 2024.
“We have been in constant contact with Lukas over the past two and a half months. He had a great desire to continue his career in our team, especially since at the end of last year we signed a new contract with him for the next two seasons. He showed himself a real professional in his field. This was especially evident during the playoffs. However, at home, Lukas and his family were under strong psychological pressure. Together with him, until the last, we hoped that everything would be settled, calmed down. But, unfortunately, the pressure on him, including threats to the life of him and his family, does not stop to this day, ”the club’s website quotes Larionov as saying.
“In the current situation, the safety of the hockey player and his family is more important. Therefore, we came to an agreement to terminate the current contract with Klok. I emphasize that the rights to the player remain with our club. We hope that the situation will stabilize over time and Lukas will be able to return to us,” – added the functionary.
Klok moved to Neftekhimik in 2021. He took part in 44 games of the regular season, in which he scored 31 points (5 goals + 26 assists). He also has 4 (1+3) points in the playoffs.
